We immediately broke our initial plan for some reason. I guess the CW targets were too tempting, and also we wanted to put some preassure on france and to have some Italian bombers ready for the summer of 1940 s campaign in France.
Chinas surrender was actually a surprise to us. Time will tell if it was a good move. US entry skyrocketed, we do know that.

And so begins the surge eastwards. We almost did not manage to get all troops there in time because of the weather.
Italy also started a long period of not being able to find anything at all in the med. However, during parts of this period, there was not much to find either since the CW (and later also USA) more or less ignored the med completely from now until at least 1943.
US gear up was disturbingly early. Compared to the mean value for this US entry action, it basically means +150 BP for the US in total. Ouch!

Bit of a panic action here. We were still some points short of breaking the attack, so Italy was to ZOC and flip as much as possible to reduce the USSRs garrison ratio. Also, all available German troops in france are railed eastwards and reorganized. In addition, we were stopped by the weather in impulse 1 meaning that Germany only had one turn of good weather to attack in (rain on the other). Not good, but at least we got the war we wanted.

US total war hurt, badly. We did have a corps or two around Bourdeaux, which is notoriously hard to defend for the axis and easy to hold for the allies but it was not enough. Fortunately, we could at least contain the allied invasion.

Since allied now are gradually taking the initiative in the west and the weather is worsening, we decide it is time to realize the fact the we will not be able to kill the USSR. Better then to take up defensive position sooner than to late. In retrospect, maby we should have pushed on a little bit further.

Kaj (Ge, IT) : Subj: Axis plans[2007-10-11 09:51:59] Reply
Germany wanted to make a Barbarossa 41 from the start, so Italy and Japan adapted. We agreed to make a joint effort at attacking in M/J 1941, with Japan taking resources from the east and Germany and Italy from the west. Italy was to provide Balbo and as many bombers as possible, and also some fighters. We agreed that Italys plan in the Med should be 95% defensive, but in return, Germany should help Italy align Yugoslavia as soon as possible. Malta was a potential target if the possibility would arise, but if so, this would almost exclusively be an attack in order to deny allies a good port for invading Italy from later on. Communist Chinas setup was very aggressive, so we decided to try for a combined flanking and direct assault of their positions which was quite successful, and suddely Chinas situation went from the default bad situation to extremely bad. The main thing was to free up troops for the russian offensive.
